Like many appliances, fire extinguishers have a life cycle and therefore an expiration date. For fire extinguishers it is particularly important that they have not expired or be empty. For safety reasons, therefore, used or no longer working fire extinguishers must be disposed of and replaced.

The legislation that regulates waste disposal provides for the recovery and recycling of plastic and metal parts and the correct disposal of gases and extinguishing powders to avoid damage to the environment and to humans.

The fire extinguisher and powder extinguisher disposal service must be performed by companies or institutions specialized in waste disposal.

In the case of fire extinguishers, the empty ones are collected and disposed of and transported to specialized centres for recovery and disposal.
