Do you have a saturation fire extinguishing system and want to be sure that it works effectively in an emergency?

The Biogenesis door fan test is the solution for you! The door fan test is an analysis and verification procedure of the sealing characteristics of a room, mandatory according to the UNI 11280:2020 standard. The test is used to evaluate whether the room is able to retain the extinguishing gas discharged from a fire-fighting system at saturation, maintaining an adequate concentration for at least 10 minutes.

Biogenesis is specialized in the design, installation and maintenance of saturation fire-fighting systems, with many years of experience and qualified personnel. We have state-of-the-art equipment and recognized certifications to carry out the door fan test with professionalism and precision.

How is the door fan test performed?

The door fan test is performed with an instrument called as infiltrometer, which consists of a fan mounted on a sealed panel applied to the room door. The fan creates a pressure variation between the inside and outside of the room, and measures the air flow that passes through the cracks or unevenness of the walls.

After a series of measurements, the equivalent loss area of the room is calculated and compared with the values envisaged by the UNI 11280:202012 standard, which establishes the requirements and methods for verifying the tightness of rooms protected by fire extinguishing systems at total saturation.

The phases of the Door Fan Test

    Machine installation and setting

A panel with a fan is applied to the door of the room to be tested, and a control console is connected with the measuring instruments and a PC for data processing.

    Pressurization and depressurization

Pressurization and depressurization of the protected volume and measurement: the internal and external pressure of the room is varied with the fan, and the flow of air entering and leaving the room is measured.

    Equivalent leakage area calculation

The total area of the cracks or unevenness of the walls that allow the passage of air is calculated, based on the measured values and the reference standard.

    Finding and sealing leaks

In the case of non-compliant values: the areas of leakage are identified with the aid of a thermal imaging camera or a smoke bomb, and they are sealed with suitable materials.

    Repeating the door fan test

As a verification of the interventions carried out: the test is carried out again to verify if the tightness of the room has improved and complies with the requirements.
